The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic and successful learners. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. The goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. The program teaches children how to learn, not just in preschool and kindergarten, but all through their lives. Children learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them. Good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves, will make a difference throughout a young child’s life.

The philosophy behind the CSADC Head Start curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning isn’t just repeating what someone else says; it requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand about the world we live in.
CSADC’s Head Start Early Childhood Education Curriculum is based on the following philosophical beliefs:
At the center of the curriculum is the child. Children construct knowledge. Children learn best when their physical needs are met and they feel psychologically safe and secure. Children learn through social interaction with adults and children. Parents are the primary educators of their children. Children’s learning reflects a recurring cycle that begins in the awareness and moves to exploration, to inquiring and finally to full integration of new skills and knowledge. Children learn through play. Children’s interests and needs motivate learning. Children have an inherent need to exercise their emerging mental abilities and to make sense of their experiences. Children are unique and individual. Individual patterns of growth development and learning vary as do family experiences and cultural backgrounds.
