Holice Powell was built in 1950 to serve the southern portion of Dyer County, in the unincorporated area of Fowlkes. The school was named in honor of Mr. Holice Powell, a former Superintendent of Dyer County Schools, who passed away prior to the opening of the school. The Dedication Ceremony was held on July7,1952, with then Governor Gordon Browning presiding
