The Head Start program works with young children and their parents. The program, sponsored by the Kansas Childrens Service League, focuses on childrens health, nutrition, education and social development. Head Start helps children get a healthy start to learning. KCSL offers two types of Head Start programs.
Center-based- Children attend classes with other children in a classroom setting.
Home-based- Staff members visit children and their families in their homes, once a week.
Children who are 3 to 5 years old may participate in Head Start. Children must be at least 3 years old on or before August 31 of the new program year. Most Head Start students come from families with low financial incomes.
