At Sidney Nelson Community Learning Center our mission is to decrease the dropout rate of pregnant and parenting teen girls. We strive to provide educational experiences for our students to make informed choices set achievable goals develop a positive self-concept and reach their maximum potential to become lifelong learners. The faculty and staff assist students in acquiring prenatal care to reduce the rates of premature births birth defects and infant mortality. We also believe it is important to provide the children of teen parents a quality child care program in a safe cheerful stimulating environment for normal infant development. We believe optimal learning occurs in an environment that nurtures the development of each student and child for favorable educational social emotional and physical development.

The purpose of Sidney Nelson Community Center is to provide experiences for students to develop academic skills experience success and become productive members of society by meeting the requirements for high school graduation. As a special middle and high school we offer direct classroom instruction based on the Sunshine State Standards. At Sidney Nelson Community Learning Center we provide educational experiences for our students to make informed choices set achievable goals develop a positive self-concept and reach their maximum potential to become lifelong learners. We offer positive learning experiences for students to develop parenting skills and knowledge of the ages and stages of child development.
Our Pre-K program provides students with an environment in which they experience success. Active play has purpose and meaning to young children. It is their natural approach to understanding life situations and the means through which they gain new concepts and skills – such as readiness in math reading art science social studies and music. Thus our student’s concepts of home life are greatly enhanced through centers as we make a positive difference in a child’s life and prepare them for lifelong learning.
