Dr. Maria Montessori began a theory of education that has survived for eighty years. There are more than 3,000 Montessori schools in the United States alone — a testament to the success and wisdom of this great teacher.

Her fundamental premise was very simple - children gain information primarily through their senses; every child learns at a different rate and with different stimuli; and that for any educational venture to become successful, it must provide for the child’s academic, social, spiritual, and emotional needs.

The teacher in this room is called a DireCenteress because she shares information with the student and then leads or directs the student to the next level of skills. It is not unusual to see several children in the room working on a multitude of different projects at the same time. There is a low buzz of quiet conversation as the children share and explore and discover, and always there are smiles. This is a happy place.

The Christian Montessori Preschool opened its doors at Lord of Life Lutheran Church on July 7, 1991 with ten children. The program was filled by September of that year with children of every denomination. In 1993, a second classroom was added, and the program is always full. The Christian Montessori Preschool is unique in this community because of its quiet approach to strong academic skills and because of its commitment to combining those academic skills with Christian education, emphasis on social skills and good manners, and individual attention to the needs of each child.

This school is a clear reflection of Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision of respect for the child and her understanding of the child’s intellect. We are proud to be a Montessori school!

The Lord of Life Christian Montessori School growth continues; providing a Christian education and environment.The Christian Montessori Preschool is unique in this community because of its quiet approach to strong academic skills and because of its commitment to combining those academic skills with Christian education, emphasis on social skills and good manners, and individual attention to the needs of each child. The school is truly a wonderful learning experience for young children. The school currently provides children with this unique education opportunity through the 5th grade.

The flag that flys at the Lord of Life Christian Montessori School was the Eagle Scout project of Bruce Latvala, a member of the church. The flag is flown 24 hours per day in honor of those who protect us day and night. It is lighted during the hours of darkness, the custom for flags being flown after dark.

In 2006 a two-story addition was added to the Lord of Life Christian Montessori School. This photo is a night view of the addition. The new addition was ready a few days after the opening of school for the 2006/2007 school year. The addition enables the school to offer quality Christian-based education to additional students with a wider range being served. It provides the ability to serve up to 80 students; a self-imposed limitation to ensure quality continues to be more important than quantity.
