It is the intent of Illinois Central College Child Care Centers to provide quality care and a developmentally appropriate curriculum which meets the needs of children as individuals. Our program promotes social, emotional, motor and cognitive development through a play environment. Helping children develop a positive sense of self is a primary goal. Our staff of experienced early childhood educators and Child Development program students provides a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for the children.

Through planning appropriate activities and guidance by the teachers, the children experience success which is important in self-concept formation. Children are encouraged to make choices among the various learning centers and to develop problem-solving skills as they participate in a variety of tasks and as they work with other children. With the guidance of caring adults, children will develop appropriate behavior patterns. The curriculum includes stories, game songs, rhymes, manipulatives, art, outdoor play, and other creative activities.

Our staff works with parents for the optimal development of the child and the family, respecting family values and individuality. Frequent communication between parents and staff and a variety of parent involvement opportunities are additional features of our program.

The childcare program prioritizes social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of the child.

The social development (based on childs developmental age) includes helping the child feel comfortable in school, trust their environment, make friends, and feel they are part of the group.

In the emotional development of our children (based on the childs developmental age), we try to help the children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life.

In the cognitive development of children (based on the childs developmental age), we help the children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

Physical priorities (based on the childs developmental age) include helping children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.
