Child Enrichment Center

The Child Enrichment Center is a ministry of Union Avenue Baptist Church in Midtown Memphis. We believe that children are a gift from God and should be treated with the love and respect they deserve in order to become God-loving, responsible members of society who treat others the way they wish to be treated.

The Child Enrichment Center was established in 1963 as a half-day kindergarten. In 1964, an all day nursery program began with four staff members and 40 children. The CEC is one of the oldest, most respected centers in Memphis. It is a ministry of Union Avenue Baptist Church. According to recent data concerning day care services in the US, frequent employee turnover is a major concern, with some centers reporting as much as 50% employee turnover each year. This is not a problem at the Child Enrichment Center. Staff members of the CEC have an average of 12 years service, and more than 50% of the staff have been with the CEC for ten years or more.

The Child Enrichment Center staff has confidence in their program and in themselves, maintaining an “Open Door” policy. Parents (and grandparents) are welcome to visit and/or observe at any time. Children who graduate from the CEC are welcomed at schools to which they go, both public and private. Teachers at these receiving schools often comment on the smooth adjustment, good preparation and great attitudes they see in the CEC graduates. Parents and visitors alike have commented on the caring, family-like environment at the CEC.
