Hi there!
My name is Bonita Grove, and I’m a student at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Sociology, with minors in History, Peace Studies, and Urban Studies. After I graduate, I hope to obtain my master’s in Education and teach elementary school in the Chicago area. I also have research interests in education and family food choices/obesity. I am a huge advocate for child nutrition- ask me about it!
I’ve been babysitting/nannying for about eight years, and have experience with all ages and energy levels. I also work well with multiple children.
Up until the fall of 2010, I worked in Evanston, IL as a tutor/mentor to 2-5th grade students (6-8th during summer), and I loved every minute of it! Seeing a child’s face light up when they finally figure out how a word is spelled or how multiplication works—THAT’S what makes everything worth it. I worked mostly with our 3rd graders, but I do have experience with all grade levels. During the summer of 2010, I worked with our middle schoolers, and coordinated a once-weekly Documentary Club/Social Justice Issues Group. Each Monday, my students and I discussed such issues as South African apartheid, the Holocaust, and the Civil Rights Movement. I am very passionate about these issues, and this current school year (2012-2012), I am thrilled to be working as a an Alternative Break Immersion Student Leader at Loyola.
Also, from 2011-2012, i worked at a day care in Wicker Park, primarily with 3-15 month olds and it was such a rewarding experience as well! While I love teaching older children, infants are such a special group that I really enjoy working with them. As part of my position, I had a background check done by DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services), as well as a physical and TB test, and was CPR and first aid trained.
Since the spring of 2012, I have been nannying for several different families, both temporarily and long-term. As my current family transitions, I am occasionally available for weeknight or weekend babysitting. I will keep my full-time availability updated as well if it changes. If you have any schedule questions, please ask! I always try to be as flexible as possible.
On a personal note, I am a very genuine person, and I hope that radiates through from the moment you meet me. I’m reliable and trustworthy but definitely know how to have fun!
