My name is Melissa Lufkin, and I’m 30 years old. Currently I’m living in West Hartford, Connecticut.
Recently I served as Administrator and Curriculum Coordinator at the School Age Center at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Enfield, CT, partnered with the nonprofit Educational Resources for Children (ERFC). In this role, I independently designed and developed a STEM curriculum for at-risk students and created an after school activities catalogue pursuant to the ERFC grant. I supervised and administered day-to-day operations of the center, managed a team of seven staff, and worked with parents, school administrators, teachers, and community collaborators to develop and improve the programs and increase student enrollment.
Prior to this position, I managed a before and after school program as the Head Teacher at Wolcott Elementary School in West Hartford, Connecticut for almost 4 years under the YWCA. In this position, I coordinated and supervised on-site social, physical, recreational activities for a class of 50-60 K-5 children. I met and collaborated with agency personnel, school committees, community organizations, and others in order to develop engaging, balanced, challenging, and fun programs for students.
I strengthened my skills in leading teams, building consensus, and motivating others to reach their fullest potential. I am now interested in focusing on working with elementary-age children. (Primarily Kindergarden-7th grade) Currently, I am actively applying to master programs in Elementary Education, as well as starting up my own program for kids who don’t have a place to go after school when the bell rings. As you can imagine, a lot of planning & networking is involved as I am in the very beginning stages of doing so. I’m looking to work with school age children in any capacity you may need or want. My passion is working with youth, and will be for the rest of my life.
I have my Connecticut Head Teacher’s Certfiicate, as well as up to date first aid, CPR, med admin. certifications. I attended Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire and graduated in 2008 with my bachelor’s in Psychology. As for as babysitting experience, I babysat years ago going through high school. My summers through college were spent as an overnight camp counselor & swim instructor. Looking forward to speaking with you
