Write a messageHello!
I am a 29-year-old college student and have recently been employed in the retail and animal care industries. I’d like to begin a new career path in childcare and am very happy to begin with the right family. I grew up babysitting for the little ones in my family and have past experience in paid childcare for a family friend. While they’re not parallels, I believe my experience in animal care will also help me immensely as I strive to provide the best care for your child/children. I take the role of a caregiver very seriously, and have also provided help in the past to an elderly member of my family with mobility issues. I love interacting with children of all ages and have always done so whenever I could in my past work experiences (including giving small freebies to kids when I worked in a toy boutique, the ire of one manager, but the boss was okay with it!). Having been in caregiver roles previously, I understand the importance of patience and an attentiveness to details that we take for granted otherwise, e.g., ensuring the safety and accessibility of a room or activity.
My philosophy when dealing with children, as with dealing with anyone, is to meet them where they are able to meet you. I believe in lots of positive affirmation and the discussion of feelings as they arise to help children process an often confusing and unjust world. Children should always be seen and they should always be heard.
I am happy to help with basic housekeeping, including laundry, as well as any tutoring. I am especially adept in English/writing/reading, but I also understand and can help tutor basic Spanish, Italian, and maths (from elementary to more complex algebra). I’m not a master chef by any means, but I love experimenting with recipes and am comfortable with meal preparation. I enjoy baking in particular, and would love to make this a regular activity if possible! I think it serves as a great learning tool and offers a sense of real accomplishment for children.
I do not possess a driver’s license at the moment (due to a lack of need for a car, given that I’ve lived in an area with a lot of transportation near by), but this is something I’d like to work on for the future. I am in the process of obtaining CPR certification.
I’m very flexible with the starting rate. What matters most to me is that my employers and I are the right fit for one another!
Additional services: Meal preparation and Laundry.
