As a professional with a background a youth counselor, art teachers aide and substitute teacher, I have had much experience in supporting at-risk youth and overreaching organizational goals.

I currently work at a special education school for at-risk children. My primary role is the assistant art teacher for many art forms from classic drawing, sculpting to photography/videography and digital work with Adobe programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier. These students have had difficulty adapting to public schools due to emotional/psychological challenges such as depression, anxiety, or behavioral issues. The arts department is prudent for a healthy balance in students core class development as it allows them to find creative outlets in their adversities. In addition to teaching, tutoring and socio-emotional support, I manage extracurricular programs, facilitate group and individual counseling, develop curriculum for students, and plan/run school events. I am a liaison between students and their social workers as I monitor their daily behaviors. This includes working with the merit/demerit write-up system where we document their behaviors for improvement. One of the extracurricular activities I run is a club for students to find meditation and the arts as a healthy outlet. I assist with art healing groups, the fall equestrian therapy group as well as organizing local educational field trips to expose the students to networking opportunities.

My experience volunteering at Camp Erin has allowed me to work with children in a vulnerable state as they experience the bereavement of the loss of a loved one. As a counselor, I am there to guide a child in the process of commemorating their loved one and connecting with others that can relate to the pain they feel. I wish to further my education in a Masters in Social Work as well as obtaining grief counseling and art therapy licenses.
