My name is Ilyssa, I am 25 years old and I have been living in New York my whole life. I moved to the Lower East Side over a year ago with one of my best friends from college. I graduated from Indiana University from the School of Public Health in 2016 with a BS and a minor in Global Health Promotion. Out of college, I was working at The Marfan Foundation, a non profit foundation for the genetic disorder called Marfan syndrome. I was the event manager for all of the foundations’ walk-a-thons throughout America. I have always had multiple baby cousins to babysit or countless other families I would help out! I have been babysitting for other families for well over 10 years now. Specifically, there were 2 families during High School and out of college that I consistently babysat for. One family had three young kids, the youngest being two years old, and the other family had four kids, the youngest being four years old. I would spend my time bringing them to/picking them up from all there activities, preparing meals, doing laundry, light housekeeping, helping them complete their homework and, of course playing sports and having dance parties, and then finally putting them to sleep at night. I also have worked three summers as a camp counselor, two years at my Synagogue and one year at Sunrise Day Camp (a free camp for kids with cancer and their siblings). In addition, when I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia, I volunteered at a private elementary school and taught the principles of gardening and cooking. Through this time I learned a great deal about how to effectively teach kids to listen and learn, all while simultaneously enjoying what their doing! That experience gave me so much insight on how to navigate and resolve certain situations and or difficulties among young children. I feel very comfortable multitasking and taking on any and all tasks handed to me. In certain situations where the day isn’t going as planned and things come up, Im able to remain calm and proceed skillfully to problem solve and make the best out of it. I am passionate, energetic, compassionate and extremely sensitive regarding others’ needs. I am very comfortable with pets and I am able (and enjoy to) go grocery shopping, cook, clean, do laundry, put kids to bed etc. Lastly, I would love nothing more than to plan creative and fun arts and crafts projects to do with the kids, play sports, dance, do yoga, read, teach, and bake!
