I have great experience working with elementary-aged children. When I was in high school, I was a baby-sitter for a family with 2 young kids, a boy at the age of 4 and a girl at the age of 3. I baby-sat for this family for about 3 years consistently. During college, I was involved with a student-led volunteering group called Sidekicks. It was a similar program to Big Brothers Big Sisters. I first met my Sidekick when I was a first-year and she was in first grade. We stayed paired until I graduated and I still continue to keep in touch with her family. After graduation, I directly worked with students at after school programs and a summer camp on the UWS through my AmeriCoprs VISTA service year.
