I say this in my title because I am coming from three years of experience as a Chicago Public Schools Security Officer. Children have become my passion and my profession. With my post in the halls of Audubon Elementary, I was surrounded by Kindergarteners and First graders who would greet me regularly. I would greet them back with a smile. Whether I was supervising recess or assisting a child with questions, I felt a joy and an amazing spirit being with the students.

Life is funny sometimes and can bring you to places you didn’t expect. When I was working at Whole Foods before working for Chicago Public Schools, the idea of working with kids was strictly for playing with my baby cousin at family events. Now I am an uncle and childhood friends are having children. Leading me to so much exposure to these young minds and inspiring me daily at my job.

The inspiration has led me to want to become a teacher and move towards having more experience mentoring and spending quality time with children in their own environment. Playing with kids, talking with kids and supervising kids has become a passion for me.

When I was told about Sittercity.com, I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to step outside of my security role and apply the skills I have learned with more allowance for my personality and character. To build relationships with children and families outside of the structured environment I have become accustomed to. I hope to meet families who share the same passion for their children’s development and growth as I have learned from my time at Chicago Public Schools.
