My name is Laura Timbario-Quering. I am a 31 year old language arts teacher and reading specialist teaching in Chicago Public Schools. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (yes, I am a HUGE Steelers fan). I moved to Chicago almost eight years ago, for a mixture of reasons and fell in love with the city. I live in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, with my husband and two miniature wiener dogs.
I am a graduate of both DePaul University and West Virginia University. I received my Masters degree in elementary education in 2011, from DePaul. I have an undergraduate degree in both psychology and communications from West Virginia University. I am currently a language arts and reading intervention specialist in Chicago Public Schools. In this position, I teach reading to grades 1-4 and work one-on-one with children who have reading disabilities and who are struggling with reading. I also teach language arts and writing to grades 5-8 in a classroom setting. In the past, I have taught kindergarten and fifth grade. My current teaching position is an amazing and unique opportunity that allows me to teach and see (on a daily basis) all 600 (approximately) studens in the elementary and middle school that I work in. I generally see 200 students a day in both the classroom setting and one-on-one. It makes for a non-stop day, with LOTS of planning and grading, but I truly love getting to know (and love) all of the students in all of the different grade levels.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as the director at two different (big) modeling agencies in downtown Chicago. I was the Assistant Director at one, and the Director at another. In deciding to pursue my dreams of becoming a teacher, I found it neccessary to resign from my position and go back to graduate school. Prior to moving to Chicago, I worked as a developmental child therapist in Pennsylvania, primarily with autistic and developmentally delayed children. During my time in graduate school I worked as a nanny for the family of an amazing little girl, who is still a huge part of my life (she was the flower girl in my wedding :) ). I worked for their family from the time she was six weeks old until she was almost 3 (I worked part time with them in the summer and throughout the school year when I first became a teaceher).

I look forward to having the opportunity to speak with you and hopefully work with your family.
