Everything You Should Know About Montessori Teacher Training

12 April 2016

The Montessori program is great for any interested care providers or teachers who are on board with the basic learning philosophy that all Montessori schools embrace. Montessorians believe that kids should learn from others, themselves and their surrounding environment. They believe that learning should be natural and exploratory, not forced. For those who may be interested in working at one of the 4,000 Montessori schools, there’s a strong Montessori teacher training program available through the North America Montessori Center. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get involved in the Montessori teacher training program:

What’s available?

Those interested in enrolling in one of the programs for Montessori teacher training can decide which program to pursue based on which age they’re interested in working with. The Infant/Toddler Diploma Program teaches teachers how to teach infants through three-year-olds, according to the Montessori philosophy. The Preschool/Kindergarten Diploma Program focuses on how to help kids ages three through six learn. Finally, there are two elementary programs. The Lower Elementary Diploma Program is meant for those interested in working with elementary children under nine years old. The Upper Elementary one is for children as old as 12 years old. The courses focus on everything from communication to basic teaching philosophies.

How much will it cost?

The Diploma programs must be paid for individually and range in price. A money-saving tip? If you pay for all of it at once, instead of the available option of three payments, you’ll save a bit of cash. The infant and toddler Montessori teacher training program costs about $2,000, the preK and kindergarten one about $2,200 and the upper and lower elementary ones are roughly $3,000 each.

What will I receive at the end of my Montessori teacher training?

After completing the program of your choice, you’ll receive a Montessori diploma in your specialty, bringing you one step closer to finding a job at a Montessori school.
